UPGRADE TO FRAUD DETECTION AND NOTIFICATION SYSTEM As part of our continuing effort to bring the best technology and service to our members, we at The Local Credit Union are upgrading our Fraud Detection and Notification System.  The new system will provide more immediate attention to notify our members faster when fraud is suspected.  The notification portion of the system includes a state-of-the-art automated assistant to help our members review transactions and confirm their MasterMoney Debit card spending activity. 

If you receive a notification call from our automated assistant, whom we have nick-named Jill, please work with her to answer questions regarding recent card activity.  Please also be aware that our Card Member Security team that provides fraud alert management is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week should you need assistance from a live agent.   

If suspicious transactions are identified as fraudulent, calls will be transferred to our outstanding member support team at Card Member Security to help you take the necessary precautions to protect your cards and related accounts.  If the recent activity is legitimate, you will be able to close the case with the phone attendant using your touch-tone phone.

Falcon is a neural network technology that learns and understands individual cardholder purchase patterns, comparing real-time authorization data with your individual card behavior in order to better prevent fraud before it can occur.


What happens?  Each and every non pin transaction is scored for potential fraud.  Then, in the event of a questionable transaction, a fraud representative will phone the cardholder to verify the transaction.  Falcon Fraud representatives will ask questions to verify the cardholder's identity, however, will never ask for numbers off the card or the expiration date.  If cardholder verification is not immediately made the card is blocked, a message is left for the cardholder to call back at their earliest convenience.

To prevent any interruption of your debit card service, please make sure the credit union has your phone numbers (cell phones are convenient for receiving a call while still out shopping) and let us know when you will be going out of town.



We are now a CO-OP Shared Branching Outlet.  With shared branching, credit unions from all over the country share facilities to give members thousands of convenient locations to perform transactions just as if they were in their home credit union.  Whether you are at work, home or your favorite travel destination, your credit union is always nearby. 


When you enter a shared branch you will need the following:  Your home credit union's name.  Your account number.  Valid government - issued photo identification, i.e., State Driver's license, US Passport.



The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) announced the availability of a free mobile application—CU Locator—for consumers. Available for the iPhone, the iTouch, and Android devices, the app puts finding the nearest credit union location at consumers’ fingertips.  The free CU Locator mobile application is available for download from iTunes or the Android Market.

Preferred Rates for Term Share Accounts Are Now LOYALTY RATES Did you know that by using credit union services you could earn up to a .25% annual percentage yield above the current yield?  The more services you use, the greater your rate.  Following is a list of preferred services:  Money Market Account, Individual Retirement Account, Checking,  Debit/ATM card, HOP (Handi On-line Pay), E-statement, Direct Deposit, Auto Loan, Home Equity Loan, Mortgage Loan, RV Loan, Boat Loan, Line of Credit,  or Visa.  You earn a bonus rate of .025 for each service you have.  Maximum bonus cannot exceed .25%.  This offer subject to change and can be withdrawn at any time.  


The National Credit Union Administration, commonly referred to as NCUA, is the federal government agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions.  NCUA also operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF).  Backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, NCUSIF insures the accounts of millions of account holders in all federal credit unions and the vast majority of state-chartered credit unions.  You can confidently join and conduct business with federally insured credit unions because no member has ever lost money insured by the NCUSIF.  Failures of federally insured credit unions are rare because only those with sound operational standards qualify to receive NCUSIF coverage.  NCUA also regularly reviews the operations of all federal credit unions and works closely with state regulatory authorities to evaluate federally insured state-chartered credit unions.  Members are federally insured up to at least $250,000.00.  IRA's are separately insured up to $250,000.00 by NCUA - "Backed by the full faith and credit of the United States Government".

When you make a deposit at an ATM, there will be a hold placed on your account.  Because we can not tell what type of a deposit you are making, you may also be notified of an exception hold*.  * If you are depositing a payroll check, please contact the office.  Avoid these holds by enrolling in the direct deposit program or look into having your funds wired.  If you are making your deposit at our ATM machine, use the night deposit box instead.  We can see what exactly you are depositing and a hold may not be necessary. 


If you receive any mail from the credit union and do not understand what it is, please call for clarification.


Phishing attacks are "Spoofed" E-mails and fraudulent websites designed to fool recipients into divulging personal financial data.  By hijacking the trusted brands of well-known banks, online retailers and credit card companies, phishers are able to convince up to 5% of recipients to respond to them.


Many identity thieves are now using a computer technology called Voice over Internet Protocol that enables them to make anonymous calls to your phone for a crime called "vishing".  Here is an example: You get a call saying that your credit card has been used illegally.  You are asked to dial a fake toll-free number in order to "confirm" your account details and credit card number.  Once you provide this information to the thief, it is used to run up charges on your account and leave you with a financial mess.  Your credit rating may also be affected.  


Call the toll-free number on the back of your credit card or on your statement to see if they initiated the phone call or the e-mail.  Do this as soon as possible to make your credit union or credit card provider aware of the vishing attempt.



If your credit card or debit card is lost, stolen or compromised, please call the number on the back of your card or call the credit union during business hours.

Be suspicious of any E-Mail with urgent requests for personal financial information.  Do not use the links in an E-Mail to get to any web page, if you suspect the message might not be authentic.  Always make sure you are using a secure website when submitting credit/debit card information  via your web browser.  Always keep in mind that WE WILL NEVER ASK FOR ACCOUNT #, VISA CREDIT CARD # or MASTER MONEY DEBIT CARD #'s or PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS (PIN's), VIA EMAIL. 

If your ACCOUNT INFORMATION is stolen, report the theft as soon as possible.  Cancel your account and open a new one.  If your PERSONAL IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION IS STOLEN, report the theft to the major credit reporting agencies.
